Can I convert a piece of furniure into a kitchen pantry?
I just typically dislike kitchen cabinery. I want to use some kind of furniture instead, maybe vintage. just wondering if anyone else has done this and how it all worked out. Thanks so much for any feedback. Vickie

Sure, the key is making it durable at the feet, for wet mopping and making the shelves out of plywood and not spanning more than 3’, if you’re going to put cans and glass jars (pasta sauce, for example) on them.
You can put a Roman shade on the front of an open book case.
or Convert a stereo cabinet with a glass door into one, by putting frosted contact paper on the back of the door.
or Buy a laundry/room broom closet cabinet in the utility-cabinets section of a DIY store & add shelves.
Yes, you can use a small table and put feet underneath of it or use a dresser. It's really easy to do so. good luck!
Hi Vickie, one of my favorite furniture upcycles in Kitchens are when dressers or buffets are used to make islands or even under the sink cabinets, it can be really pretty! Here's an example of a hutch converted for the kitchen. (Image found on google image search)
of course! it it has shelves and drawers just add a top and you are good to go :)
I have seen some lovely cabinets built with a china cabinet as a show puece. Look in Pinterest.

Consider using an old vanity/chest of drawers for an island, or two, back to back.
I've seen beautiful ones made with old doors.
Here are some ideas for an island, which may inspire you:

I've seen this done lots of times, and while I haven't done it myself, anything I've seen looks very successful. You'll need to do some extra planning to make sure everything fits together well visually and functions as you need it to.
Growing up Mother's kitchen was quite sparse on our farm. She had a Hoosier cabinet/cupboard on one wall. On the other wall, her wood burning cook stove with oven below and the other wall was a sink in a cabinet. Other wall was double opening to the dining room. She used to make some fabulous meals with so little furniture.
I would use a large dresser or armoire and paint it a color that either matches the rest of your kitchen or that works as an accent. I would fill the open spaces with baskets instead of drawers and then on the top you could find some storage solutions at a storage store for spices, cans, etc. Maybe even a lazy susan type turn table on the top to display some of your nicer spices or items you plan to use for that weeks recipes.
