DIY Chocolate and Roses Room Spray
The aroma of chocolate and roses is synonymous with Valentine's Day but sometimes you just want to enjoy that delicious scent anytime. Learn how to craft a fragrant room spray that smells like rich, dark chocolate with a subtle floral note with this easy tutorial.
You don't need a lot of supplies for this project but you will need:
- spray bottle for dispensing. We used these gorgeous
- rose essential oil or rose absolute
- cacao absolute
- a small funnel
- a solubilizer - We used Poly Sugar Mulse D9 which is a natural, biodegradable solubilizer and surfactant. However, this is optional.
Exact measurements can be found on our blog here.
First, prepare your spray bottle by giving it a quick wash with soap and water. You can also reuse another spray bottles you have on hand. *The amber bottle with the white lid was repurposed.
Using your funnel, pour the vodka into your spray bottle. You can also add some distilled water to save money rather than using straight vodka. We like to keep the ratio to about 3 parts vodka to 1 part of distilled water.
Next, add your essential oils.
You can add a solubilizer to keep the mixture combined. Although, a good shake before using will do the trick as well. This is personal preference. We use the solubilizer for a variety of DIY's so we usually have some on hand.
Finally, put on your lid and give your spray bottle a vigorous shake.
Why make your own DIY room spray?
Scented products that promise to leave your home smelling fresh will often contain phthalates, formaldehyde, aerosol propellants, or other harmful ingredients. These ingredients have been linked to allergies, endocrine disruption, reproductive damage and cancer.
As well, synthetic fragrances can trigger migraines, headaches, skin irritations, and asthma in those who are susceptible.
Keep in mind that while your upfront costs to purchase all of the ingredients will be more than a commercial room spray, each batch of your homemade room spray will only cost a dollar or so. Possibly less depending on the vodka you use.
Remember cheap vodka works as well as the expensive stuff.
We hope that you enjoyed this easy room spray tutorial. For more home cleaning DIY's and a few home decor DIY's as well, check out our blog. Link above or in our bio.
And remember, exact measurements for this recipe will be found on the post on our blog. We also have a variety of other room spray recipes on the blog.
