one thinned coat and 2 full coats of emulsion is one answer. That varies on cost.

We don't have info about cost for repairs, painting, etc. we don't give quotes on work to be done just help on doing it yourself type projects. I would call local painters in your area to find out what they charge. Good luck!
The cost will vary greatly by square foot and by the painters- I'd estimate anywhere between 400-1200. Here is a tutorial on how to do it yourself https://www.hometalk.com/diy/paint/rooms/how-to-paint-a-ceiling-42162941
How to Paint a Ceiling
It depends on where you live, Stephen. I would call a few local painters for estimates.
One coat of primer, touch up if skim coat showing thru anywhere. Two coats of paint.
Multiply the length of the ceiling times its width to find its area. 2. Divide that number by 350 (the estimated square feet covered per gallon) to figure out how many gallons of paint you need. For this example, you want to buy 1 gallon of ceiling paint for a single coat.
Are you looking for a painter to do it or DIY? I would highly recommend the ceiling paint at Sherwin Williams and increase the amount needed for the area by 20% since it's new mud. Pricing is going to depend on the size of the room as well. Also, the area in which the work is to be done will influence the price.
Prices vary based on location, size of ceiling, what painters charge, cost of paint. One primer coat and two coats of finish paint. DIY would be cost of paint.
Have a painting party. Buy pizza and beer for everyone after the painting is done. If you get 4 good painters to help out you will be surprised how fast this gets done and generally just for the cost of supplies.
If you go with hiring this out a handy man will be cheaper then a pro. Just be sure to ask for references from whoever you decide on.
If you are going to diy instead of hiring out, don't be lured by cheap priced paint. In my experience better quality paint is thicker, it covers faster, and does not smear as easily. As it drips less than low priced paint, there is less wastage.
Here is an article that explains what paint is made from and why it is worthwhile to use a quality brand.

I agree with Flipturn! Quality paint is essential to a quality job - can't go wrong with Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore.

Hi there Stephen,
Fun answer - The cost of hiring someone else to do the job - get a quote! Some would spray paint it others would use a roller and some would use a brush or even a combination of all. It rather depends on the area and the paint used. Do check out the back of the cans for coverage................ How long is a piece of rope??
You can figure the cost of the paint quite easily by multiplying the length of the room by the width for the total square footage, then check the canister of paint for how much it covers.
