The ways to do this are endless and it's going to depend on the size and shape of your patio, if you have outdoor outlets for lighting. Start with seating and tables, then go from there.
Anchor your patio furniture with a pretty rug that has a bold print. Cushions in a solid color that goes with it. Add a few outdoor decor pieces. Lighting for night time. Make sure you have some shade where it's an umbrella, gazebo, or some other type of shade.
If your patio is covered add lots of little lights or maybe an outdoor fan. Get an area rug and a nice patio set. If you buy one after veterans day they are usually half price. A nice glider and some chairs with an end table is nice if you do not want a table to eat at.
We recently updated our patio. We purchased a patio set from Lowes with a Pergola and shade cover, a rug and chairs/table. Then, I have a raised bed garden where I plant veggies and I have some lower pots with strawberries, annuals, etc. We have a shaded swing lounge on another side.

Arrange furniture to look as though it is a room inside the home. Then it will feel comfortable. Add a Few Large Pots of plants too...........Enjoy!
Think how the area will be used and set it up so it functions well. Colorful planters and a few outdoor pillows can add much interest. If you plan to have a table and chairs for outside dining, make that colorful too. Maybe an umbrella to shield you from the sun, if needed.

Depends a lot on the size. I have a sitting area, a raised planter box which I grow morning glories for beauty and privacy, area for grilling and wind chime. I still want to put in 21āā planters and put some colorful flowers out there, too.
Think of it as an extension of your living area. Add rugs, outdoor furniture, and plants.
