I would make something like a box maybe out of a cardboard one cut down you could cover it with contact paper

We always kept everything on a tray. A crate or bin would also keep it all together. Good luck and stay safe!
What style and size is your game?
Are you wanting a holder as somewhere to store it, or a holder so that you can still play it without having to balance it on your lap or knees?
Could you post a picture of it so that we can see what you are starting with?
I built tall, slender bookcase type holders. They are custom to the size of the case with a shelf everyone 12”. I built from shelving board on sides, top, bottom, & shelves. Plywood backing. Glued with wood glue and secured with finishing nails. Then painted but could have been stained.

How about an ottoman or a bench that has storage space built in?- easy to access what's inside, yet hides the clutter when not in use.
