How do we get stain off a cedar deck and porch?
We have a screened in porch that goes out to our deck. Both have been stained with a medium brown stain and it has started to come off in numerous places. Some comes off easily and other places we can't get it off. Any suggestions as to what we can use? We have already tried Sherwin Williams deck and stain remover but it didn't help at all.

We power washed it after letting the deck and stain remover sit for 15 min. Still didn't help!
It has most likely penetrated the wood so you will have to sand to get it out. You might want to just re-stain to avoid sanding.
Evidently the product on your deck is one that sits on top of the wood rather than soaking into the wood. That type of product will peel and blister over time. Your best solution is to sand it all off. It is a great deal of work but once you get it off you can use a stain that soaks into the wood rather than a product that is on top of the wood like paint. A oil based stain is what you want. I used a belt sander and a medium grit belt to remove this paint type of stain from my deck. Do NOT use a coarse grit belt as it will tear up the wood too much.
Hello. Manual sanding might be the option to consider. We had the same situation with a poorly applied streaky deck stain finish apply by a contractor. To get it off we had to strip it down with sanding.
Sanding will be your best bet if that product didn’t work. Rent a large sander to make the job go faster!
You could try a different brand of deck stripper but otherwise you’ll have to sand it. Consult with the paint department at your local home improvement store if you know what the stain was that was used.
