Frances, here is some info to help you out
Hi Frances, hope these help you out, To get your peonies to bloom, make sure they're planted in an appropriate area and take care not to over-fertilize them. You can also cut and store peony buds and get them to bloom in a vase long after the blooming season is over!
Apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer, such as 5-10-10 or 5-10-5, twice a year in spring when the leaves first appear and immediately after flowering. Sprinkle approximately 1/2 to 3/4 pound of fertilizer per 25 square feet of space, applying it evenly under the peony canopies.
Hi Frances. Peonies are beautiful and full when healthy. They can add so much drama to a bouquet as cut flowers. Make a solution of 1 tablespoon of Epson Salts dissolved in a gallon of water. This will help replace enzymes in the soil and plants thrive with it. Sprinkle it where the plant meets the soil. Then give it a big drink of water. The extra water will help the roots receive the Epson Salts more quickly. You can repeat every two weeks. Continue doing this until Fall. In the Fall when the plant starts to yellow you can cut it back. Simply cut all the growth off at the soil level and discard. Next year you should a beautiful and healthy plant with plenty of flowers. Good luck Frances. I hope all is well with you.

Jun 19, 2018 · It almost never happens that a peony is in soil so poor in minerals that it fails to bloom, but it will fail to bloom if it gets too much fertilizer, especially if the fertilizer is rich in nitrogen (the first of the three figures seen on the fertilizer label). The culprit is usually lawn fertilizer applied too generously right next to the peony.
Hello. Did you have any unusual weather conditions that would explain the lack of blossoms. I am in zone seven mine were bountiful this year
I know that younger plants or plants that have been moved recently tend to need some time before the blossoms will follow. I hope you find a solution to your Peony trouble
Hi Frances, my peonies didn't bloom last year at all. This year they are amazing! I asked my husband what was different and he said that he put some wood ash on them in the winter when we were using our wood stove. ACID LOVING plants do not like wood ash so this can get really tricky and I wouldn't recommend putting wood ash everywhere on all of your plants. But in this case I just wanted to mention it. I think it can change the PH and depending on the soil, it can flourish with some sprinkled on it.
