How can I improve my living room decor?
I've just redecorated my living room adding up some french antiques I bought in Paris and Madrid but I would appreciate to have feedback on how it looks or whether there is something improvable. By the way there is an empty niche on the right side of the fireplace. Any suggestions?

I think it is beautiful just as it is - maybe some decorative pops of color for throw pillows on sofa would be all you need to add- awesome job
I feel bad saying this, but I would stick to one of the sofas. They are too big to have two. Additionally, I would remove the trim around the fireplace and put a different mantle there. That way you can utilize the space to the sides of the fireplace to add some decorative vases or plants. Otherwise, it looks great.
I agree with Cheryl above, the place is absolutely beautiful, but I'd be tempted to add some pillows or a throw and some fresh flowers in the room for a pop of color and life. Enjoy that gorgeous room!
Beautiful room. The only things I would change are to re-cover the chair backs, they create and eerie presence in the room. The room is in imbalance as far as symmetry on the sides of the fireplace. The object d'art over the fireplace is fine. The 3 other pictures need to be evenly hung and the furniture underneath the pictures, especially to the right of the fireplace needs to be balanced. Perhaps put the wood item on the right of the fireplace in another location. Best to you, hope your feelings are not hurt.
Thanks a lot for your comment. Just to give you more info, the back of the guilted chairs is a fornasetti fabric and the piece of furniture you mention is a Louis Phillipe abatant (1838) that I would prefer not to change because I consider it is an interesting piece. Maybe i could do something on the other side, what would you suggest?.
Add color or texture to the walls on either side of the fireplace. Change out the fixture around the fireplace to a mantle or a cool tile that goes all the way to the ceiling or a variation of all that. Add some plants for a less sterile feel. Beautiful space!
What you have done is absolutely gorgeous! Want to take on my house next? :)
Hi Adolfo, it looks great, but you do need some color, and, maybe a cloth or something over the creepy faces on the chairs.
Wow! When I read this question j was expecting blah but Wow was I wrong 😍 I would make the walls a dark red color.. but that’s me! Beautiful living room.
I would a accent color in the form of throw pillows. Repeat that same color when you replace the candle on the bookshelf. Some of that color could also be present in the area rug. That would enforce the accent color but at the same time give you texture and interest to the area.
One couch and opposite that perhaps 2 wing backed chairs. There would still be seating but the room wouldn't feel so full and it would look more inviting also.
I say no to the suggestion to add plants. I feel plants would only add mundane clutter to the room. IMO plants would lower the calibre of the decor in the room. They would be in competition for prominence with the wonderful shapes and textures of the antiques, and would definitely lose.
Oh, and do not do anything to change the fabric on the chairs. They are gems that add dimension and character to the space!
I feel the area carpet is too casual and shaggy looking for the elegance of the room. My suggestion is to replace it with one that is more formal is design and pattern. Choose one that contains some of the colors of other objects in the room, as well as a little color from the opposite side of the color wheel.
This would give a central focal point to the room, would 'anchor' the largest pieces of furniture, and would add some needed subtle accent colors.
Here's a few examples of area carpets that I think might work.
For anyone not familiar with the color wheel, here are two illustrations.
Thanks you all for your kind comments. Regarding carpets for sure I would consider maybe a Ziegler piece, the rug you see is actually temporary
Hi Adolfo, I think you did a wonderful job and it looks beautiful!! You can come to my house to decorate anytime.
Your room is absolutely gorgeous! I think the only things I would do is add color. Buy an area rug with a lot of muted colors, then get a few throw pillows in the color that you like the best. The painting on the wall has some lovely blues I would go with those colors.
I feel the mirror needs taper candles or something else with height that is thin on each side. Perhaps a touch of light grey & pink, that always makes me think Parisian style. Quite lovely.
I would remove the fireplace surround as its too contemporary for the room you've designed.
I also feel the sofas are oversized .... how do you manuver in and out of the room, it looks crowded due to the size of the those 2 sofas.
I would add some throw pillows with beige, light brown, creams, etc. Also the mantel needs some color or bling like a plant or faux plant, or an eye catcher that will still match our beautiful decorations. You might add a little color on the tables or something surprising to catch the eye. The room is gorgeous, it just needs a little "bling" with a conservative color add
I think your decor looks awesome! May I suggest a round sun ray mirror over the fireplace? It would fit in with the back of the chairs. As many items are square or rectangular already more rounded elements added to your room would look nice as well. I do not know if your fireplace is used or not. If you do not use your fireplace, you could put a nice statue in that niche.
Oh I just saw the close up of your mirror and its beautiful! I love french antiques. I have a hard cover book called "Private Houses of France" by Christiane de Nicolay Mazery that I asked for Christmas one year. It has photos of interior decor of historical french homes. I also love the marble on your fireplace! And I love the chairs-Louis the XIV was known as the Sun King. I think a statue figurine or tall candle stands in that niche might be nice? What do you think you might put there?
To make it more spacious and modern, I would remove one of the couches by the window, and add two ultra modern chairs in mustard. The ones with the wooden legs. Also removing the two other chairs on the end, it closes everything off. Also add some color, by adding three printed decorator pillows to the white couch. Inexpensive, and updated fix.
Awesome antiques. The bones of your room are great. Love the symmetry of the two sofas. Those chairs are definitely statement pieces.
I agree you need some color. A more formal rug and some pillows on the sofas would add warmth. Maybe a vintage throw on one sofa. I also agree the pictures need to be at the same height and the mirror needs something else with height. If those are candle holders maybe you could add some chunky pillar candles.
I dont want to hurt your feelings (but you did ask). I hate that mantle. Its ugly and it doesnt go with the rest of your beautiful antiques. It sticks out like a wart on a log. You need a proper mantle. I think a French mantel would look awesome. Or maybe one of the faux finish antique slate mantels

I think the clock and lamps will look great!
it is beautiful already but if you are looking for a small change I would accessorize differently ...dress up your mantel , add pillows , something fun on the coffee table
I think it looks great, but I would add a few pops of color. Fresh flowers would be an easy way to add color. Also, throw pillows and blankets will warm up the space.
