The ceiling.
Painting color question
I have a bedroom that is a bit smaller than 13 x 15. Ceilings are about 10 ft high. They are dark wood with beans. I need to repaint the room. I have no decorating skills. I want it country to go with the house. I am going to put a new carpet but not sure on the color. The ceiling will stay the same. Please give me color suggestions.

The ceiling would look great painted a white. Leave the beams their natural color, paint the inset slats. .The rug could be anything. I used a white cotton rug. Then I used a country shower curtain that has a blue stripe to give the farmhouse look.
You could go to pinterest and do the curtains a "bleached painter's canvas curtains." I did this in my living room, dining room as they are connected and they turned out great. The directions are very clear and easy. I even had a seamstress make curtains for the kitchen from a prepared "bleached painter's canvas." I hung them with black clip curtain rings from amazon. Everyone loves them.
Light light color for the walls since you aren't painting the ceiling. What colors do you lean to? Grey's, blues, grey/greens? Warmer colors? I would find the lightest one on a color card. Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore are my favorites. You want to brighten up the room! Also your rug should be lighter as well. That is a lot of dark wood and if you have everything else light and bright, you won't feel like you are in a cave. I can find a great color for you.....let me know what you like.
Love the white ceiling with dark beams and I have to agree with K Rupp...go light. Even tho some say white carpet is hard to keep clean it is easier than one would think and goes with any color. Our home is similar in that we have tongue & groove thru out most rooms for a log cabin look/feel. When building I went with a light tan for the carpet in my bedroom now 12 yrs later, I am redoing most things and so wish I would have went with a carpet color leaning more toward a white. Our room is larger (20x24) so it can handle darker colors BUT the neutral tan is much harder to pull into most of the decorating style/color that I currently am leaning toward. Happy color hunting!
I LOVE this ceiling! I would paint the walls white. The ceiling darkens the room, so the white walls will lighten it up. You can add pops of color with the rug, accent pillows, flowers and art.
White sealing with original beams would look terrific! ...also, can't go wrong with walls and floors painted a neutral color~
Hello what a gorgeous ceiling I’m glad you’re keeping it natural it is a wonderful asset.
Your personal taste/ decor style might dictate your choice. Some folks like bold colors some neutral. Is it possible your carpet choice might indicate your color choice for your walls? You may want to choose that first.
Using sample jars of paint can help prevent mistakes. We painted a two story for your room a color which was a beige tone on the paint chip card but in the lighting it looked peachy. Sometimes those four or five dollar sample jars might be worth the cost before you make a mistake and choose a color that might reflect your ceiling carpet or your lighting.
Additionally I personally find browsing awesome visuals on Houzz or Pinterest web sites to help collect some ideas to consider/ exclude others in aspects of color choice and styles for decorating and refurb applications.
You might want to consider browsing over at these sites utilizing key word searches customized to your specific needs or interest.
Do you have any fabrics that you could use as a color jumping off point? That's my fave way to choose colors! :)
Hi Susan, it's a beautiful ceiling! I always love a good cream and natural wood. Using a neutral will allow you to change up the accessories any time you want and give you a great neutral background.
Here is a post I wrote that might help you try and figure out what colours you love so that it will make it lovely and to your taste. Hope it helps! http://www.recreateddesigns.com/2020/01/how-to-figure-out-your-decor-style/
I would go with white, it'll really brighten up the space!
The wood is beautiful. Lucky you. 😊
Apparently this isn't a popular opinion but I would white wash the ceiling. Not the beams but the wood in between the beams. That would make the entire area MUCH lighter and that would make it feel like the space is larger.
If you really want to bring more light consider a solar tube. If you used that you could get away without white washing the ceiling.
Dark tan or two tone brown and tan
off white or light gray would look great! Carpet color you probably want to stay neutral (gray tones) and maybe find a country theme area carpet to add on top.

Personally,
I wouldn't paint the wood ceiling. It would be difficult to do & I would paint pof a ceiling white and leave the beams their natural or stained color. It sounds too trendy to me and if you decided to sell your home - it could be a hard sell.
I wouldn't buy a home if ssomeone made that type of alteration to WOOD. Most people love wood. I love the ceiling the way it is.
If possible maybe you should consult a professional decorator before painting.
I'm very cautious when it comes to painting a beautiful wooden ceiling. Add lighting to brighten the room if the ceiling is too dark. Maybe it just needs to be cleaned.
Please, forgive me. I'm not a fan of trendy designs that come & go.
Thank-you.

I would do white walls with a beige carpet
For carpet, I would pick beige or dark beige as cleaning maintenance year after year will be an issue if it is super pale. Pale carpeting will show every mishap and stain. For the walls, pick white or a color you can feel relaxed as you will be sleeping in there. Do you have a fireplace in the room too? What style is the room? Is it midcentury or modern style?
