My favourite paint stripper is CitriStrip. Works great and doesn’t smell as toxic as others.
Yes CitriStrip is the favorite of many people. They have changed their formula and it is not going to be “peeling off quickly”.
No stripper peels-off, it turns the paint into a sludge, of which you have to carefully scrape off and possibly re-apply and/or use steel wool to clean the stripper out of the details.
Watch some YT videos on this.
I completely agree that Citri-Strip is the easiest and best way to go. You can apply it and then cover with clear plastic wrap or even plastic bags so the stripper doesn't dry out too quickly and can do it's work. In a few hours remove the plastic covering and scrape as much paint away with a plastic scraper. You may need to do this more than once, depending on how many layers of paint you have. Then clean and rinse well, sand, and it's ready to restain. Usually a darker stain than already there is the way to go unless you sand down to the bare wood. Good luck!

Citristrip is pretty good, just make sure you remove before it dries.
