We planted shrubs.
We bought used slats from a local fence business. They just slide down each link. You can get either regular or privacy slats. The privacy slats are the same but with more material for privacy. We got ours for $10 for enough slats to cover 10 Ft.
Nice thing about slats is that you can hose them off to clean them! We choose dark green so nothing stains them.
I would pick a set at Home Depot . All comes with instructions
You can add privacy to a chain link fence by adding a fence tarp. I used to hang a fence tarp on the chain link fence at the back of my yard. (But now the bushes I planted create enough privacy.) You can see and read about the tarp here: https://momhomeguide.com/chain-link-fence-privacy-solutions/
You could also use zip ties to attach lightweight lattice panels to the fence. Good luck!
