How to Fix a garbage disposal?
It doesn't go on. The water drains after using a plunger. If hit the reset button twice and left it over night. Tried it this morning but still nothing.

Hi Alexis,
What a headache!
Take a look here and follow step by step instructions, it just may work, if not call in the plumber:

Check to see if you have a re-set button. Many times this is all it needs.
you should have an Allen wrench in the kitchen that came with it. Under the sink on the outside of the disposal There's a hole in the bottom where u insert the wrench and manually turn the gears. Some times this will clear it. You tube helps a lot.

Go to your electrical panel and check to see if the breaker switch that controls the unit is in the ON position. Your model of garbage disposal may have a built-in safety feature where by the electricity to the unit is clicked off if the motor is overworked or jammed.
If the individual switch on the panel is marked vaguely such as 'kitchen' be sure to take a moment and properly label exactly which switch runs the garbage disposal. In case there ever was an emergency whereby the electricity to the unit needs to be turned off immediately, anyone will be able to do so quickly.
If you have to hit the reset button it's possible the disposal is jammed. The reset button pops out when there's an overload or a jam. Another option is check if a breaker is off in the electrical panel.
If something doesn't work for me, I go through a series of checks (you mentioned that you already hit the reset, which is one). I check if it is connected to the power, I check the circuit breaker. Do you have an owner's manual? Most are online now, and sometimes I find there is a sequence that is required to fully reset an appliance. I won't bore you with the electronic thermostat that wouldn't restart, but, I learned about the sequence thing the hard way! I'm guessing it was jammed, so if you try the sequence the manual recommends, decide if it is old enough to replace or if a service call might be needed. Don't do anything inside it while it has a power source, and please be careful! Good luck!
Get the hex wrench that goes into the bottom and give it some “cranks” both right and left until it clears.
I had a demitasse spoon go down the garbage disposal and jam it up so hard that I couldn’t get it out from the top. By yanking it around from the bottom, I was able to get it out from the top.
Here's a video that might help - https://www.waysidegardens.com/how-to-planting-and-caring-for-japanese-maple-trees/a/329/#:~:text=Well%2Ddrained%2C%20Consistently%20Moist%20Soil%20%2D%20Japanese%20Maple%20flourish%20in,Rhododendrons%2C%20Camellias%2C%20and%20Kalmias.
My garbage disposal jams often. I do this: vinegar, baking soda, boiling water. It takes a bit, but unsticks the jam and clears the debris. Afterward, I run it with hot water for at least 5 minutes.

A lot of times they will get jammed. They come with a Allen wrench that fits into a hole in the bottom. You can manually rotate the innards with that to clear a jam. Another obvious answer is to check the power. Is the circuit breaker tripped? Is there power at the plug when you turn on the switch?
