How to refinish an old sink?
I have an old cast iron double bowl kitchen sink. I am not certain if it is porcelain coated ... but it is white. I would like to install it as part of my kitchen remodel, but the porcelain (?) really needs to be refinished. Is there a product that I can purchase and do this myself as I don't know of anyone in my area who offers this type of surface. Please, no youtube videos ... I can find those myself, and I prefer getting answers to someone who has actually done it!!! Thank you.

There are professionals who refinish cast iron bathtubs, sinks, etc. I would suggest you contact one in your locality nd ask fo a quote rather than attempting it with some sort of kit. A kitchen sink is used dail and needs the very best refinish job money can buy.
Hi,
I agree with the others. A DIY attempt is very time consuming and difficult to get perfect. The original surface is baked on so any new surface is best applied by a professional. I suspect that's not what you want to hear. :( Sorry. Wishing you the best.
Hello there,
Do have it done by a professional, because once it is fitted, if you are not happy or something happens, it will cost far more to have it removed and then sending it away and then refitting! Cost effective in the long run......
You can use the RustOleum Tub & Tile kit. However, I am unaware of any product that you can DIY that will truly hold up over time. It will probably have to be redone every 2-3 years if your kitchen sink sees much action. So in the long run it may be cheaper to either have it professionally refinished or replace it.
Advice if you go with a kit: It's a 2 person job. Wear respirators, not just masks. We used the ones my husband has for painting cars. Make sure it is in a well vented area, maybe even add a fan to "pull" the air from the room. Follow the instructions EXACTLY.
