Interior paint choice?
Natural wood stained and sealed wall in my dining room needs an upgrade, but I'm not sure which interior paint to use. Thinking of using chalk paint. Dont want a farmhouse look in my contemporary home, just desiring a quick project with nice result. Havent used chalk paint beforr, sounds too good to be true for coverage! Opinions welcome!

I painted wood walls and used primer and latex paint. Many times, without using a good primer, the tannins in the wood will bleed through chalk paint.

Hello. Chalk paint can be an expensive product.
We have a log cabin and we have used primer and paint both on paneling and log walls to get a room brightening look. It is a proven method to keep wood.
Chalk paint would be to expensive for interior paint. Prime with Kilz and paint with interior latex paint.
Nothing beats sanding and a good primer. It’s always easier in the end to do good prep than to fix it after.
Please do not use chalk paint, you will not like the results. I did this many years ago. I cleaned the wood really good first by dusting, then with Purple Power cleaner degreaser. Rinsed well, and dried. Then I used Zinser 123 primer, it is a stain blocking, gripping primer. Let dry thoroughly. Then I used a Purdy roller and painted. This was done approximately 10 years ago and still looks great.
Hi Cyndie, do you know what kind of stain was used on your wall?
I would put a primer over your sealer, it will help prevent bleed through even though your wood is sealed. Your new paint will need something to adhere to. Also chalk paint is not as durable as other paints, such as latex. Keep in mind, if you select to go to a latex paint, the glossier it is the more durable it is.
I would not recommend chalk paint in an area that has wear and tear. It covers well but even with a sealer it normally knicks easily.
