How to faux marble a laminate counter top?
I currently have a plain white laminate counter top. I want to faux marble it with grey. Since it is already white, do I still have to prime & repaint with white before marbling or can I start marbling right on the white laminate?

Hi Taylor, here's what a bunch of Hometalkers have done to update their counters to look like marble. Enjoy!

Hi Taylor, I would paint and marble with the paint. If you try and add grey marbling to the top of the white, it will be raised and make for an uneven counter. It will also have an unnatural look. If you can do it all together the marbling will look seamless. Hi Taylor, you need to prep the countertop first, I did my own paint on countertops, I will give you my instructions and you can do it with the paints you want to use for marbling
Lightly sand to rough the countertop up
Go to your paint store, tell them what you are painting, they will pick the proper paint and primer for you, you can even get the primer tinted for a better coverage
Once you have sanded, clean with TSP, then rinse and dry thoroughly,
Apply your primer coat, let it dry according to the instructions
Once the primer coat is dry, apply your paint coat, I would apply 2 or 3 as it will be stronger and thicker
Once your coats dry, you can apply a matte clear coat, either by spray or roll on, keep a small container of it under your sink for touch ups,( I never touched up) I had my counters like this for 12 years, until I could afford new ones. THIS PAINT JOB LASTED 10 YEARS UNTIL I GOT NEW COUNTERS
I used a few clear glass cutting boards for protection. It held up very well. And only costs you the prices of the materials.
Good luck!
Make sure whatever you use is food safe and be aware that on a hard-wearing surface like a countertop, it won't last but a couple of years. That said, I've seen lots of ideas on Hometalk, I'm sure the search bar at the top left will return you lots of inspiration.

Hi! I've used Rustoleum's kits and they are excellent. I've heard good things about Gianni kits, too. Good luck and stay safe!
