How to Make an Easy Egg Box Table Decoration

Our easy egg box table decoration is a super cute way to decorate the table for Easter. It epitomises spring, looks so pretty, and is also free to make if you eat eggs.

I’ve very much themed this egg box craft with Easter and Spring in mind and gone for a natural look using real eggs, wildflowers and other natural elements. But you could easily dress it with bolder pieces and vibrant pops of colour if that is more to your taste.

This egg box centerpiece would work equally well decorated for other seasons, using objects such as pine-cones, nuts, berries and colourful leaves in Autumn.

What I used to make my egg box table decoration.

However you plan to decorate your egg box centerpiece, you start with a simple cardboard egg carton. I chose to use a 12 egg tray and left it its natural colour.

I gathered the following elements to construct my egg box table decoration.

  • Moss
  • Natural fibre from hanging basket liners
  • Feathers
  • Quail eggs
  • Pussy Willow twigs
  • Sprigs of Hawthorn and Blackthorn
  • Small Wild Flowers
  • Egg Shells

I made eggshell planters to hold tiny spring plants as part of my display. I also used eggshells as miniature vases to display the wildflowers and sprigs of blossom.

Some other elements you could include are.

  • Felt eggs
  • Easter chicks
  • Chocolate eggs and sweets
  • Artificial flowers and plants
  • Decorated craft and real eggs
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbons

How I assembled my egg box table decoration.

This spring décor really couldn’t be easier to put together.

Start by cutting the lid and flap of your chosen egg box. Paint if desired, I opted to leave mine plain.

Line each of the egg carton spaces with moss, hay and feathers or any other material that takes your fancy. Each pocket now looks like a little nest, ready to be filled.

Fill each of the lined pockets of the egg box with a different treasure.

I nestled hens eggs planted with sweet violets and wild herbs in some of the gaps. Others I filled with ‘eggshell vases’ to display my wildflowers and blossom sprigs.

The other nests each hold gorgeous speckled quail eggs. These have been as I had them leftover from my Easter egg wreath. Alternatively, use hardboiled or even leave them uncooked if you will only be displaying your egg box table decoration for a couple of weeks.

Finally, I embellished my spring centerpiece with some pussy willow sprigs. Since I cut them, these have been out of water, so they will stay as they are and not open further.

I am delighted with my egg box table decoration.

I love its rustic simplicity.

It was free to make, and I think it looks charming.

Perfect for brightening up the centre of our kitchen table.
