Hi Janet, fleece blankets make wonderful gifts as they're very warm and easy to make. Any fabric store carries lots and lots of different styles of fleece too so you could really get something she would love and in any size you would like. I know many chemo blankets are made a touch small so they're easy to take with them to appointments etc.

Hello Janet, what a lovely idea that may provide a certain amount of comfort to your friend's grand-daughter! Here's a link that has some good info. Some quilters choose to make the back side in light-colored squares so that friends can then autograph a square using a permanent fabric pen. The fleece idea sounds like a good one too because of the softness and perhaps lighter weight of the fleece. So nice of you to do this!

How wonderful. Make sure that it is from material that has been cleaned with a "free and clear" detergent. People in chemo are very sensitive to strong scents.
The chemo patient would be the one to ask what they would like in a quilt, or if they would like a quilt at all. I know it sounds harsh to the lovely, caring person making the quilt, but things are not as usual due to the change in life's circumstances. They may be thrilled to have this quilt, or it could be a reminder of their struggle when the treatments are ongoing. A gift, in the form of a quilt is a beautiful and heartfelt sentiment.
Hope I did not hurt your feelings, If I did I am truly sorry, it was not my intention.
