How can I age punched tin with paint?
I have a reproduction cabinet with punched tin panels in the doors. I don't like the wheat pattern and would like to distract from it with some kind of paint treatment. I dry brushed the cabinet so I'd also like the panels to have some color and also looked aged. Any suggestions?

Paint them the same color and then distress them lightly with sandpaper.
I think you can draw attention away from the punched design by painting the metal a very dark color, like black. Then the shadows of the punched holes won’t show up as well. The scuff places with sandpaper for aging.
FFT above is right about painting it a darker color. It is sorta of like painting the wall behind weathered wood dark. This creates shadows which gives or makes the open areas blend into the darker recesses.
Hi Linda, hope this helps you out, lots of great ideas

A painted glaze in your preferred glaze might be suggested. A black and metallic, galvanized or rusted faux finish might be possible options to consider.
Hi,
Use a metal Primer, and the pint over it.
Try this? https://www.re-fabbed.com/how-to-age-galvanized-metal-the-easy-way/ then maybe dry brush on a hint of color
Try diluted acrylic paint. Apply with a sponge and use a soft cloth to take off excess until the desired tone is achieved. Start with a thin application. you can always add more if you want to. Good luck.
