Removing glass from metal plant stand

Susan S on Jul 15, 2012Well Larry, I'm sure you must have tried the obvious - the glass doesn't just slide out of the slots??? Otherwise, there must be screws or something on the outside of the frame that holds the slots for the glass - I think you'll probably need to disassemble the entire thing - just keep track of what goes where!!Helpful Reply

Larry on Jul 15, 2012Hey Susan, no unfortunately it does not slide and no screws. It's been left outside for a lot of years, and I am assuming rust has also built up between the metal slides and the glass, locking it in.Helpful Reply

Stacy S on Jul 15, 2012Larry have you tried some RUST remover on the slots ???? Short of breaking the glass and replacing with new~~~~~you could also tape/paper the glass...repaint the frame and frost the glass when done (since the topside of the shelf supports would still be rusted and visable)Helpful Reply

Paul M on Jul 15, 2012Larry try a heat gun along with the WD, sometimes the heat will let the WD penetrate better and loosen the rust. You just have be careful what ever you do or you'll break the glass. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Funnygirl on Feb 17, 2015How about using some pipe cleaners dipped in CLR to slide between the glass and the frame. The CLR might even do its job by just pouring some onto the glass and letting it find its own way into the frame on its own.Worth a try.Helpful Reply

Sharon Reynolds on Mar 03, 2015i love rust so i would leave it....however, u can spraypaint glass and everything same color, remember to seal it, cover glass, paint over rust, then frost glass, use looking glass spray paint and a lil vinegar and make it mercury glass looking, or make mirrors with same looking glass spray paint, turns glass into a mirror and will hide the rust under the glass....Helpful Reply
