When we bought our home it has alot of brass fixtures. I don't mind them. Do I need to get updated ones?

Our house is warm with lots of wood trim. Previous owners like brass light fixtures and wall sconces. I was told Brass is back in style. If you're comfortable with the outdated stuff like I have, do we need to update it?

Becky P on Sep 23, 2012my sister had trouble selling her home because she had all brass. When I moved into my present house, 6 years ago, the previous owner had brushed nickel put in. I promptly spray painted the kitchen knobs black. Currently trying to go with the oil rubbed bronze on replacements. The previous owner had kittens when he found out I sprayed the knobs. lol. My motto is, it's for you, so do what you like.Helpful Reply

3po3 on Sep 23, 2012I assume you are asking because you are selling your house. I recommend meeting with a home staging expert in your area. A lot of these decisions depend on the other decor, etc. in your house. If brass really fits in nicely, I think it's probably OK. Also, if it's a great house in a great location with a lot of nice amenities, buyers won't be too worried about the fixtures. On the other hand, every little bit can help. Staging people would know what is working in your area these days, and the little changes like this that can really sell your home.Helpful Reply

Jodie Ramsey on Sep 24, 2012No, we just bought the house but everyone that visits asks when am I going to get rid of the brass. I heard on House Hunters that brass was back. I just wasn't sure if it's so far out of style that I would upgrade or what.Helpful Reply

3po3 on Sep 24, 2012If you're not worried about selling, and you are happy with the brass fixtures, I say stick with them. Maybe it's your friends you need to replace if they are so concerned about your brass fixtures. Just kidding.Helpful Reply
