Zero Closets in Bedrooms

Lee Cunningham Green on Jan 18, 2015The easiest way to remove a tick is to grab it directly as close to the skin as possible with a tick remover, or a good tweezer and turn it counter clockwise. this does not kill the tick so you don't want to leave it lying around. At the vet we used to put them in a small medicine drum with rubbing alchohol to kill them. Burning them is old school but it's not as easy. I have heard that vasoline or peanut butter robs the tick of air and so the tick comes out, but I am not thrilled with that idea because then you won't absolutely know if it worked or where the tick went. A tick removal tweezer can be purchased at a local vet. Also they are disease carrying bugs so, removing the tick quickly is important to lessen the chances of lyme disease. Also let your family memeber know that the pup has been bitten by a tick so the dog can get a lyme test at the vet.Helpful Reply

DeMarie I on Jan 18, 2015You might want to take a picture of the rooms so we can see how it's laid out as to the door placement and windows. That would help give folks something to go on. Sometimes there is space from a window to the corner of the room that you can build in a closet or if the closet is in the center of the wall, you could build closets on either side of the window and the window becomes recessed. It really depends on how big your room is. Best thing is to sketch out the dimensions of the room and show where the windows & door is and then play with it to see where the best placement and size would be without taking up too much space in the room. It is correct that you cannot call it a bedroom if it doesn't have a closet.Helpful Reply

Mary on Jan 18, 2015I have the same problem. My house was built in 1935. I think that when a house is this old the "real estate" rules should not apply. That is crazy that we can't count these rooms as bedrooms especially when the dwelling was built without closets. Back in those days they didn't have all the extras like we have now. We shouldn't be penalized for that!! I know this isn't solving your problem but this really bugs me because I have the same situation. However, two of my bedrooms have a wall between them with a doorway that joins the two rooms. I built a closet on the wall that joins the two rooms and split the closet in half. This way you can access the closet in room 1 from the doorway that use to join the two rooms. Room 2 I put doors on the closet so that room also has a closet. The only problem is, because I took some of the square footage from room 2 to build the closet the room is very small and I can only fit a twin bed and one small dresser. Don't know if this info will help you but thought I would comment. I know these older homes can be a problems with storage!!!Helpful Reply

Marianne Talsma on Jan 19, 2015We had the same problem once and depending on the layout of your bedrooms, you could try back to back. We did this and created a deep closet for hanging clothes and a less deep one with shelves for each room by making 2 closets an added sliding doors to save room.Helpful Reply

Toni Jeffries on Sep 07, 2015If you have a large laundry room or an extra bedroom, make it into a 'Family Closet'. If it's in the laundry room then it's really ideal because of the machines being right there. Put a dressing screen in one corner and all clothes get put on and taken off in the one room. It makes containing laundry, and putting it all away much easier!Helpful Reply

Conni on Oct 05, 2015I had a home built in 1863. .. Do we took the door from living room and dining room to front hallway and used them for closet doors. Theater bedroom had a center window on the front wall. We centered the bed and built a closet on each side , which gave us a lovely built-in look and because the doors were original to the house it didn't look like a new addition. So look at habitat re-store or architectural salvage for old doors. I good handy-man can build itHelpful Reply
