Weed or not?

Msi1170121 on May 02, 2015Hmmm...flower or weed? You need to know the Gardner's definition. ANY plant growing in a place or manner ( think invasive) is considered a weed. ANY plant showing desirable traits (think flowers, growth habits...heat or drought tolerance, ETC) is a desirable plant. Many flowering "wildflowers" are now viewed as native plants rather than weeds. Thank goodness I read the sign before I weeded at a nursery gardeners do this ...it's genetics I think.. I almost pulled a $7 pot of evening primrose!Helpful Reply

Robin Miller Cresci on May 02, 2015This is NOT a weed! While I do not know the exact name at the moment, it is a desirable plant for the garden. I wish I had one! Any way you can turn the photo upright?Helpful Reply

Bonny McDaniel on May 03, 2015There are many varieties of spirea...I have one that is mistakenly called Bridal Veil but is probably the 'Baby's Breath' variety as the leaves and blooms are smaller. The picture with this post does appear to be the Bridal Veil variety. It probably needs some pruning and shaping so consult a plant guide on how to do that so it will bloom next year. If you had to buy a large spirea like that, it would cost more than the average shrub.Helpful Reply

Sandy Harmon on Aug 25, 2015Thanks for all of the interest and help in identifying this plant. It is Viburnum. When my husband was living he had this area as pasture for his horses. It has now grown up and has a variety of colorful and interesting plants that I love.Helpful Reply

Nikki on Aug 25, 2015I have a crazy weed growing in my wooded area behind my house I'm 99.9% sure its a weed. Although I have lived here 13yrs and never saw it before it has really pretty yellow flowers on it. I was just thinking I need to post a pic and ask just in case because it just came from no where after all these years.=)Helpful Reply
