Wal1675858 on May 13, 2015Rewiring it would be nothing. I make lamps out of all kinds of things, perculators from the 50's, drum snares, glass blocks, wine bottles, vases, branches broken from hurricanes, etc, so making a lamp out of something that was already a lamp should be easy. Wish I lived closer to help! If you ever find another one like that, let me know!!! LolHelpful Reply

Kim Braman on May 13, 2015this is a repro from the very early 1970s when early american furniture was a rage. Yes, there was a simple pull switch lamp on that post. it wont take much to sand and restain and get the lamp rewired. the hard part would be finding an early american shade but obviously you could put any shade you like on it. (my aunt had one exactly like this.)Helpful Reply

153091 on May 13, 2015Great that it already has a lamp, most desks need one. Buy a lamp kit at Lowes, easy to put together and if you paint it, stain it, or do a shab decor, get a shade that suits the desk decor....and update it by looking Hometalk & Pins for great do-overs.....unless you like Early American.Helpful Reply

T on May 13, 2015I'm with Jan B. There are lots of ways you can go with it as far as color and then go with a shade that goes with the theme. Lowe's has all you'll need & If you're not 100 % confident on doing the wiring project...find a friend or family member to help.. two heads are better than one :-) Have fun!!Helpful Reply
