Paint is way easier, Cathy! Plus, the glue in wallpaper doesn't always hold up well in steamy places like bathrooms. We put beadboard wallpaper in our main floor bathroom - the shower doesn't get much use there - so it's done ok. Here's a tutorial: https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/2012/07/how-to-install-beadboard-paintable.html :)

I have done wallpaper in a bathroom and in fact I have the patterened kind that you paint in my basement bath where of course there is a lot more moisture. The easiest way I can explain is if possible remove the tank part of your toilet so that you can get in the space behind that. I always butted my seams for a smoother look and even if the paper is a pre pasted there is a glue to use for that type I would recommend using. I am sure there are hints on wallpaper hanging on Pinterest. it is a time consuming job depending on the size but if that is what you want go for it. Another hint is always use an exhaust fan when the shower is in use.
