Is this your house or do you rent? One of the cutest things I have seen are the plastic ceiling tiles that you tack on. They come in the old fashioned look to the contemporary ones. Use stainless steel screws and you get that popular industrial look!!!
You can paint them or leave them natural...and can buy them separately or in a box!
