hi there i hear the reglazing only lasts about 5 years then you have to do it again. maybe you should rather invest in a plastic bath or no bath at all.
I have only had tubs professionals reglazed. My experience has been excellent. I highly recommend it and have done quite a few times over the years. Back in 2007 I had the original tub in a house built in 1926 reglazed. With proper care, could last another 25 - 50 years. Cost (at that time), was 1 day and less than $500 - if I would have replaced the tub with similar quality, tubs were around $2,000 plus demo and installation labor costs and possible damage to existing tile surround which I wanted to keep. So for me the decision was easy. Tub looks brand spankin' new even today. Considering this house is in earthquake country, it goes to show the quality of materials and workmanship back then is far superior to what they manufacture and build today unless you do your yourself and "overbuild" to surpass minimum code requirements - and have gobs of cash to throw around.
It's a great way to freshen up the bathroom at a low cost. There are some great tub and tile kits on the market you can purchase.
We just reglazed our tub & tile surround ourselves. It is quite a job!! Will not do it again. My daughters did most of it. Toxic smell, must have multiple fans to remove it. I got the kit from our local bldg supply store. We used 4 kits at about $30 each. It is beautiful!!!
