You might find some cute storage solutions for all the clutter. Removing as much furniture as you can will make the room seem bigger. Two beds, a nightstand, and maybe a dresser should be about all that is in a small room. Utilize under the bed storage and reorganize the closet so that you can store/hide more things in the closet. Also adding shelves to the wall may help and keep things off the floor. Painting with a light airy color is good too.

Sometimes making a game of putting things away works better than telling them to clean up. Put all the red things away....now the blue....Hide a treat in the clutter....my grandmother raised me. She said it kept her young keeping up with me :-) Blessings to you for what you are doing.

    God BlessYou.

Does the autistic child have a favorite color? Perhaps her things could all be that color, and another color for the other child. Perhaps a clearly-defined This is Mine to take care of would help, including mesh hampers they can decorate with ribbons or fabric paint to put toys or laundry in.

If they share a two-door closet, paint the inside of each door their color.

You can inexpensively buy risers for the beds for under bed storage (if they’re Not jumpers). Walmart, and others, sell adjustable bed risers.

Young children have a short attention span. There used to be a show on TV for kids called “The Comfy Couch.”. In it, they would often do a one-minute tidy. A timer would be set for a minute and they would clean up as much as they coils in just one minute. It was a game and made the cleanup fun. Also, you might want to have colored crates so that like colored items can just be tossed into those crates during cleanup. Or at least have one large toybox for toys and a set of shelves for games and books. As far as the beds, bunkbeds or crossover pads are the best idea to create more space. Good luck!

Set them up so they make the shape of an " L" against a corner wall. That will expand floor space.
