If you can’t paint hang a tapestry or curtains
if you want to counteract all of the warm wood tones, use lots of whites, solids, and simple lines.
Think scandinavian. Hang wall hangings. Use plants to bring life to the space. Treat the wood as a neutral. Too much wood can be overwhelming, but it is a big trend right now to have wooden planking on walls ie. Shiplap or board n batton.
there is even a market for wood wallpaper.

An inexpensive option is to buy bed sheets in a color you like that are on clearance. Tack on the wall or hang a curtain wire and use pinch clips to hang the sheet
Peel and stick wallpaper/contact paper.
Call you landlord and ask if you can white wash it. It’s work butbeautiful
I feel your pain I have 3 rooms of it toung and groove, ceilings included. All of it waxed. Nothing sticks to it readily.
