I'm assuming you have a window or 2, when you hang your curtains, mount them higher than the top of the window frame(s), almost to the ceiling height and just above the baseboards this will give your room an illusion of more height. If your current curtains (assuming you have some) are too short, a cheap alternative to actual curtains is to make floor to almost ceiling height. As for a depth illusion, Mirrors are the fail safe go to, especially big wall mounted mirrors, and will add more light due to reflections. Long Door mirrors are inexpensive and you can alter the frames so they don't look like door mirrors, mount them sideways (lengthwise), for the wall length illusion. Light colored neutral walls help as well.

Unless you need drapes, even cheaper (usually) than sheets for curtains would be painters' drop cloths--the cheesecloth kind, not plastic. If you use rugs, let them be rectangular, running from the door to the opposite side. Crosswise cuts the long view and makes it feel choppy. Best wishes 😇
