Hi Barbara! I'd do a white crib and changing table and then maybe gray on the walls. I saw this picture and thought it was so cute.

I would use yellows and greens in the room to keep it gender neutral. Are you handy at sewing? Create a cute bedding ensemble with or without a canopy over the crib. Have you considered a theme for the room? Perhaps some cute woodland animals? I would paint one accent wall in the nursery in wide stripes and add a couple of wall lights, and in time, the baby's name in those cardboard letters like you can buy at Hobby Lobby and decorate yourself. Things don't need to be expensive to be cute!

I think neutrals are always safe (beiges, soft grey) and then it won't be too babyish as the child ages. You can find cute prints online (Etsy is great) & buy inexpensive frames. You can then easily update your prints as the child ages.

You can save money on paint at Habitat for Humanity ReStores or at the paint store where the wrong colors are returned.

I am currently getting ready to host a baby shower for my sister in law and they are not finding out what they are having and the shower theme is "welcome to the world your adventure awaits" so lots of globes and vinta maps.
