Can I cut my inside door to basement in half to make a 1/2 door?

I would like to cut the door that leads to my basement in half (so that I can get rid of the baby gate keeping my dogs from going downstairs). I am wondering about hanging the door back up? Will the one lower hinge be enough?

You can but make sure it's not a hollow door first.
agreeing with Bernice, definitly make sure it's a solid door first. one hinge will not be enough. you'll need a lower one and a higher one. having the one will make the door lopsided and hard to open and close.

Take the top hinge off and move it to the top of the cut door. Or, if you cut the door just above the middle hinge, you are should be ok.
