How do I add legs to a hope chest?
I have an older hope chest I want to give my daughter in law but it is very short... only 16 inches tall. How do I go about adding legs without making them look (a) like peg legs or (b) inconsistent with the chest itself?

Hi ! Check out home depot or Lowes they have an assortment of legs !!! Hopefully one will work for you ! What a nice gift idea !!!
You can buy leg brackets and screw in legs at places like Lowes or Home Depot. I suggest using the brackets as they make everything more sturdy. The legs come in different styles and heights. I would not add very all legs as that might make the hope chest wobbly even with the brackets-probably no more than 5 or 6 inches.
Do you have a photo of the chest? I feel like it usually looks best it you affix the legs to a board and the board to the chest then refinish everything to look cohesive.
These are great for attaching legs! (They come in straight or slanted designs). Once you install the brackets, the legs simply screw into them. (Depending on the chest design underneath, you may need to add a small piece of wood so all 4 screws are secure)
