We had some 2 drawer filing cabinets. Then we secured a piece of plywood on the top of them. I covered the playwood with a fabric, but could stain it or use some chic contact paper as well. That way you have drawers as well as a desk top. Good luck. This is also sturdy enough to hold a computer, printer and a few books.

Ditto to the above. You can find filing cabinets at thrift stores and craigslist. They are easy to paint and/or cover with contact paper if you don't like their current finish. You can also use cinder blocks if you can't find filing cabinets. You can have a nice piece of wood cut at your local lumber store -- our Home Depot sells thick, really nice 12' pieces of wood for less than $15. They will cut to size, also. Paint it, distress it, decoupage it, or just stain and seal it.

use two metal filing cabinets and put a flat door on top. Can use two saw horses if looks don't matter
