When using old barn wood in your home is it best to seal it?

We will be using barn wood on our walls and wondering if it is best to seal it or leave it natural. I don't want to change the look of it but, at the same time don't want to get slivers either.
Thanks for your advise.

I have lots of old barn wood in my home. We have never sealed any of it and no one has ever gotten a splinter from it. You can seal it if you want but it is really unnecessary. It would really just be a waste of energy, time and money to seal it.

I personally would. Use a liquid wax like from Heirloom Traditions. They offer clear and colored waxes. I have used the clear and it does not alter the look of your project. A light sanding with 220 grit or higher might be best too.

I would seal it with a non yellowing sealer in flat. By using a flat finish you won't take away the beauty of the door.

It is best to clear seal it, otherwise it will collect dust easily & be hard to clean; also the clear seal gives the wood more depth & keeps it from appearing 'drab' after a few months.
