Large tarps, large pieces of fabric, shade sails, etc. , attached to poles secured into the ground at each edge of patio. If you need to attach to your house, consider carriage bolts or similar.
Rhonda Hi. You might need a permit for that, or purchase a awning from a reputable company. They can be expensive. I would go to Home Depot or Lowe's, they have books to show you how to build aanything. The local library, will also have books on how to build things. Ask at the reference desk to help you find some books you can look at. Find one or two, and borrow them. If you don't have a card you can get one at the circulation desk where you check out the books. You'll need ID to get a card. Aloha!
