Sadly cheap and easy don't always go together. Easy is purchasing pre-cut stringers (the side pieces of the stair that form the stair), then the wood for the steps. You'll have to figure out how to anchor the steps to the ground and what you're leading to.
The answer is basically yes by building a frame around your existing stairs. Your choice of wood will also be a cost factor. Check out the page below. Lot's of stuff on youtube and pintrest on how to do this. One thing to be careful of is the step height from the landing up to the door. Try and keep all the stair riser heights consistent including the step up to the door. If your existing stairs are too steep, you can resolve that by having a deeper landing, but your steps will stick out further from your house. Building wooden steps from scratch is not that much harder if you have a way to get rid of your existing stairs. Then you can customize the steps more easily.
