Hire a contractor, it’ll look great , compromise elsewhere.

Lori Hi, Pull the weeds out, but it won't be all the time. Next, soak the area with the hose, and wait until the next day. Put your hand as close to the ground and gather all of one weed, and pull slowly. This should get the root. If you do this once, then you'll not have to do it over. Don't try to do this in one day. If the soil gets a little dry, hose it down. Aloha!

If you will spray it once a week with vinegar and salt, you won’t have weeds. Mulch breaks down, so add more every six months. If you can put black plastic down under the mulch, that will help, also. But vinegar and salt does the most work. Weed seed will continue to blow into your yard; you can keep them from germinating and growing. Best wishes, Lor. ☺️

    Hi. Kill, till, fill.

Remove the mulch. Is is providing a growing medium for the weeds.

Kill the weeds with a weed killer.

Till the soil and spray weed killer again.

    Put in border.

Then place down weed barrier fabric and fill with decomposed granite. It is inexpensive and will pack down. A sitting area is born!

Hi. Decomposed Granite or DG is a natural byproduct of the weathering and erosion of solid granite rocks. DG is a combination of small granite pieces (⅜ inch or smaller) and fine granite, which can resemble sand. It is like gravel, but finer and more stable.

What ever area you use put down landscap fabric then put mulch on top that stops the weeds
