My neighbor installed a patio over time with 12" square stepping stones. Turned out fabulous. Was supposed to be temporary, but is in such great shape she is keeping it.
How handy are you? If you want a glass door, how about trying your hand at repurposing an old use door (or matching doors - make your own "French" doors) by taking out the wood panels and replacing with glass?
