This is how I built my workshop shelves and it seems to be the main way everybody builds basic shelves. Its just 2x4s and then something over them to create the shelf, in this case they used plywood.

You can buy some study, heavy duty shelving units at Menards or Home Depot. Often on sale for a very reasonable price. Shelves will hold from 200 lbs to 800 lbs. All you have to do is put them together in about 30 minutes or less.

Use L shaped brackets and nail directly into a 2 x 4 of garage wall. Use 2 or 3 per shelf, depending on length and thickness of board. Use screws if possible

how ever you do it make sure to anchor the shelves to the wall. If a child or actually anyone pulls them over it could kill them.

Re the ready-made, you can easily cut wood shelving for them. Whichevery you choose, think about adding pegboard at one end for small tools with holes in the end and a magnetic board for baby jars with washers and other small stuff.

More work: if youve got an outlet, hang/tack some of those “Christmas” ribbon lights under the shelves. Light is wonderful, particularly in winter. That’s why you generally have one directly over your stove.
