I like pine. It's cheap and light weight. Here are some ideas for making your own.https://www.google.com/search?q=ideas+for+pine+closets&rlz=1C1BLWB_enUS700US700&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi91KOCh5nUAhVm0YMKHW6ZAUcQ_AUICigB&biw=1024&bih=714#tbm=isch&q=ideas+DIY+for+pine+closetsHelpful Reply -

I don't know if its the best or most affordable wood for a closet, but I hope you include some cedar in your plans. Aromatic and a moth repellant, people add even a small block of cedar to their closet to make it nicer! I also heard of buying cedar wood lining to put inside a closet. have fun!Helpful Reply -

Cedar is the best wood for a closet because the smell repels moths which like to eat holes in clothing.Helpful Reply -

In my opinion white cedar is the best wood for this type of project. It is easy to work with, looks good and has all the same moth/bug repellent roperties as red cedar.Helpful Reply -
