How would beams on 9 foot ceiling work?

I’m thinking about putting beams on my living room Ceiling and paint white—ones about 4 Inches down. I have 9 ft ceilings. Would it make my ceiling look too low. Have speakers, vents, recessed lights, and security and thinking would break up the view of all this stuff on ceiling.

I think that would really look good. Instead of solid wood beams, you could secure a board to your ceiling studs and simply build a box around the board to make it appear as a beam. They are called faux ceiling beams. This would lower the cost and reduce the weight of a solid wood beam. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3218SS7W2Fo
Sounds like you have a great idea and I don't think it will make your ceiling too low since you have taller ceilings. Have you considered "faux" beams? Here's a site I located that has them in a wide variety of styles & finishes but I think they are also available at the big box home improvement stores (or they can order for you).

Would look good!
I think your ceiling would look to low. A 6 foot man is 72 inch’s your ceiling at beam height is 104 inch’s that leaves 32 inch’s for head room. And that’s hoping your ceiling is fairly level. Only ecxception I see would-be if it was a room flooded with natural light.
shipboard may look nice. It can be painted white or stained or natural. It may help distract your eye from devices
Good Luck!
