Lay your tie on a flat surface.Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda on top of the tie. Baking soda absorbs odors and does not harm fabrics.Let the baking soda sit on the tie for two to three hours.Pick up the tie and dust off the baking soda.Wipe the tie clean with a damp cloth.
Charcoal and baking soda are your best bets.

Look through this link for ideas. I like the fabreeze idea also one mentions zero odor molecular odor eliminator. I notice fabreeze has to be used on a pretty constant basis to get rid of it over time. The zero odor spray is used around hospitals so you might be able to pick up some at one of the places that sells equipment for handicapped people.
One old trick I've used for burned popcorn in the microwave is to microwave apple cider vinegar in a small bowl. For whole house you may have to boil it on the stove and let simmer a while. Then open windows to air out the vinegar.
Ties are bias cut, so the agitation of a washing machine pulls it out of shape. To remove smoke smell, try putting it in the freezer in a plastic bag for a couple of hours, then hang it outside in the fresh air in shade for several hours (not in plastic bag.) BUT... It costs $3 at my local dry cleaners to have it dry cleaned.
Thanks for all your suggestions.
