Spray with hydrogen peroxide, let sit for five minutes, mop up with a white cloth, I've used old washcloths too, light colors. May need to be done more than once but works better than any commercial stain remover. I have an old dog who sometimes has accidents, both ends :( Always works for me.

I have 2 suggestions--- first, use Spot Shot. It is the absolute best stain remover for pet stains. Second, I would make a solution of an oxygenated cleaner like OxyClean or Awesome Orange (my favorite). Mix some with water and wipe it directly on the spot. If the spot is still there, use the same cleaner (Awesome Orange and water) in a steam cleaner. Should be much cleaner!

The problem with pet stains is urine has ammonia in it. Ammonia is a bleaching agent. You may never get rid of the lighter area, sorry. There are commercial shampoos and sprays that will clean the carpet and discourage pets from soiling it again.

Use 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1 tbsp. of Dawn dish soap, and fill with water. Spray area liberally and let soak for 5-10 minutes and then proceed with blotting with a clean, dry towel until stain is removed. Some carpet stain removal products can be of great benefit for combating many types of carpet stains.
