Hi Pip,
Here's a link that should guide you through this job, just scroll through until you reach what you need to do this. Since you have wool carpeting, use cool water, never hot and avoid scrubbing motions,

First I would use an enzyme cleaner , found at any pet supply store . Then I would use Folex carpet cleaner, this is hands down the best carpet cleaner !!! I found it at home depot for around $6 . Good luck !!!
Hello, Have you tried the Oxi type pet carpet cleaners- I found them very successful in many of my doggie carpet stain situations.
Hi Pip,
This website has a special section that applies to wool carpeting. It's at the bottom of the page, so I copied it here. Wishing you the best.

"A special note about woollen carpets
If you have woollen carpet, much of the above will cause further damage to them instead of helping! Instead:Remove the solid bits as outlined above.
Make a two parts white vinegar to one part distilled water mixture. Spray this onto the affected area.- Use your white cloths or paper towels to dab it dry. DO NOT scrub.
- Buy a spot remover that clearly states it is “Safe for wool” and use it.
Place a final clean white cloth down on the affected area and stand on it, or otherwise apply pressure to soak up the final bit of liquid.- Use the magic power of baking powder as described above.
Remember that carpet cleaning professionals exist
Your carpet is an expensive thing to need to replace. If at any time you feel uncomfortable taking the actions described above, remember that one call to the professionals is probably all you need to solve the problem!"
Nature's Miracle is an enzyme cleaner and it lives up to its name...for us anyway.
Hi Pip,
This was sent to me because Jody answered under my reply. I copied it here to be sure you got it.

I used oxyclean to clean cat vomit- why does cat food need red dye? And dog “gifts”. I owned a beautiful white wool rug and used my steamer- like what you use on tile or ceramic floors- to kill odors. Your wool carpet should be able to take a little rubbing but don’t get aggressive. It’s made to stand up to traffic but you can felt it if you work at it. I’ve had good luck with oxyclean getting rid of odors that attract them back. If it’s an odor thing my vet recommends X-O and it’s worked well for me. Good luck. I had to throw out a white rug 12x18 due to cat hair balls. Ten years later we got oxyclean.

Hello Pip, hope these help you out,
Mix one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with two cups of cool water. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with the detergent solution. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the stain disappears. If the stain remains, use an eye dropper to apply hydrogen peroxide; and then apply a drop or two of ammonia.
