Make a mixture of baking soda and some hydrogen peroxide into a paste. Dab on to the stain and allow to sit then wash as you normally would.
Hydrogen peroxide is very good.
Washing or soaking a blood stain in hot water will "set" the stain making it very difficult to remove, therefore, remember to soak blood stains in cold water. If it is a fresh blood stain, it will come out very easy soaking in cold water then rubbing in a dab of detergent or soap then rinse. If, however, it's an old stain, I usually have to resort to a laundry stain remover such as "Resolve" or "Shout".
I have had great luck with ERA detergent on blood stains. My friend who is a nurse swears by it.
