There are many types of fabric glues used in the garment industry that will not lend themselves to removal without damaging the fabric. They include thermoset adhesives, urethanes, polyurethanes, and others, and dissolving or melting them will melt or dissolve the fabric if it contains synthetic fibers. For off the shelf fabric glues you will have better luck. Most can be heated with a hot steam iron and blotted out successfully, although it will take several repetitions to remove most of the glue. Using a steam iron on the steam setting will prevent scorching the fabric, and the steam will wet the fabric fibers, helping to release the adhesive so that it doesn’t stick back as it cool. If the glue isn’t heat sensitive, and doesn’t melt with the steam iron on high setting, you will have to try a solvent to do the trick. Acetone is a fairly common and minimally destructive solvent, but it would behoove you to test it on a scrap piece of similar fabric, and plan on washing the fabric immediately after removing the glue to remove the acetone residue. Goof Off and Goo Gone cleaners may also be worth a shot.
Perhaps you could cut it off and add a decorative trim if they are too short?
