If it's just an isolated spot and you know where it is, you can use a carpet cleaner and one of the commercial products sold for this purpose.

If it's bigger than that, get a carpet cleaning service to do the whole carpet. If it's worse than that, you might as well rip it all out. Also, dogs like to return to a place where there is an odor, so your dog might continue to go there.

I always tell everyone you need to locate the exact spot (s) first. That is done with a black light which shows urine as glowing. You can find a small handheld type at most pet stores. Once you've found it, assume the carpet AND pad have been soaked. You need an enzymatic solution to break it down. My favorite is Nature's Miracle - which is also in pet stores. Follow the directions and SOAK the area and let it sit several hours (overnight is better) for the chemicals to do their thing. Next, either use a carpet cleaner or wet/dry vac and suck out any liquid. Then do a regular carpet EXTRACTING shampoo. I love OdoBan's 3-in-1 Carpet Cleaner solution. (Found it in Home Depot and I think Lowe's. Don't know about ACE.) Your problem is solved. I have raised many puppies and owned handicapped dogs. That is my routine of choice.

You have to use Pet Spray Carpet cleaner, then use some shampoo. This will help, but the animal will keep coming back to this area, and use it again. Be alert, and keep outside, to use the outside for this reason. J.

Sprinkle baking soda on area so it absorbs odor down to padding. Then get it professionally cleaned. Make sure dog stays away from the carpet.

There are products speficically for that purpose. Check at your pet store, they usually have the most effective brands. It takes patience but you can get the smell out.
