Suitcase odor

Bonnie Myslik
by Bonnie Myslik
I plan on storing old blankets and some out of season clothing in some old suitcases only after opening them up they have a musty smell. I'd appreciate help as to how to rid the suitcases of the smell.

Sometimes a strong smelling bar of soap will do the trick and leave it in the suitcase with the blankets, this works in drawers, too.

crumpled newspaper will also absorb odors. Leave for a few days and if still smelling paint the inside of the case to seal the odors out. Decoupaging the inside would probably also seal the odors out.

I used Lysol spray and aired them out. Then I put a bag of fresh lavender in each suitcase. So far so good!

I use baking soda but make sure the interior of the suitcases are very dry. Sprinkle in generously, close them up and store flat for a few days and then vacuum up the soda. I'd wipe with a damp cloth and then dry inside with paper towels or newspaper.

I've got two ideas. Home Depot sells a product called OdoBan. It's such an awesome product. It works wonders. No kidding. And then, there's diluted vinegar. Not sure the measurements but I know it also works.
