What can I use to get rid of that sour smell in towels?

    Vinegar added to your detergent in the wash water--I add a cup to every load. Also be sure your towels are COMPLETELY dry before folding and storing. Check your storage area to be sure there's nothing causing the odor there.

  • Wash with vinegar in the wash (1 to 2 cups of white vinegar), and in the rinse cup, NO FABRIC SOFTENER. Felted wool dryer balls in the dryer.

    Hi Lori,

    It is likely mildew you are smelling, it comes from sweat and bacteria which is transferred onto your towels after bathing or showering, or prolonged dampness of the towels.

    This link will guide you through laundering them. One additional tip I have learned along the way is to keep my clothes washer open when not in use, this helps cut down on anything growing in my washer.
