How do I remove black traffic patterns from my beige carpet?

Black shoes are leaving "traffic" like patterns on my beige carpet. I've tried shampooing with purchased carpet cleaners and yet the black patterns remain on my carpet. I'm open to any suggestions on how to correct this. I've talked with

other people here in CA and they're having a similar problem.

  • Get your carpets professionally cleaned. Should be done one a year for maximum wear on carpets. Any light colored carpet will show traffic patterns. To avoid this from recurring after the carpets are cleaned, take off street shoes at the door and wear slippers or indoor shoes only.

I agree that removing your shoes once inside the home and having the carpeting professionally cleaned are good options. That’s what we do in my home. But even with that, there are some stains by our front door that don’t come out. If you like, you can reserve a pair of shoes or slippers for just wearing inside the house.

This project may need the help of a steam cleaning company.

Thanks for the great tips. Steam cleaning will begin on Thursday. They recommended using a ScotchGuard topping on it to help protect the new carpet.

If possible, put a small rug near the entry way that will clean shoes off. You can make your family and friends take off their shoes, but you can't ask service people to do that.
